The Wirksworth Stone is an Anglo-saxon coffin (sarcophagus) lid discovered (along with a grave and skeletal remains) buried under the chancel of St Mary's church in Wirksworth in 1820. It depicts various biblical scenes and is thought to belong to St Betti who was a Northumbrian monk sent to Mercia to convert pagans to Christianity.
