The castle is located in the village of Mănăstirea formerly Benediug in Cluj County, on the banks of the river Someş, 7 kilometers from the town of Dej, which still stands today as a small fortification and small church belonging to the Benedictine monks. The Unicorn Castle or Kornis Castle is one of the most special buildings in Transylvania area. It was perhaps the most beautiful Renaissance castle in Transylvania, which housed the largest museum of natural sciences in Europe. The history of the castle begins in 1573, when Kristof Kereszturi began the construction of the Renaissance-style castle, which lasted for 19 years, until 1592.
