This intricately sculptured bronze panel was acquired in Italy by Mr. and Mrs. Worcester Warner in 1927 for $30,000 from an estate in Florence. As part of their substantial gift to the village of Tarrytown to build the Warner Public Library they also donated this door.
The door depicts `The Coronation of Venice` as Queen of the Adriatic. It includes a sculpture of Poseidon and sea nymphs carry her crown.
The door measures 8 feet by 4 feet and weighs 1,000 pounds. Mr. Warner designed a hinge to carry the door. It permits the door to be opened with the strength of one finger.
