The Temple was built in 1420 A.D. during the Ming Dynasty to offer sacrifice to Heaven. the Altar of Prayer for Good Harvests (Qigutan) is perhaps one of the best known symbols for Beijing and China, its round, triple layer cone-shaped roof is truly something to behold, It was built in 1420 and the roof was three colours representing the Heavens (blue),the Emperor (yellow) and the bottom layer was the common people (brown).
