Pictured is The statue of Anubis in the tomb of Tutankhamun inside the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities in Cairo, Egypt. Anubis is an Egyptian funerary god, venerated as the lord of the necropolis. He guides the dead in the next world, watches over them and presides over mummification. The canine diety is pictured as a muscular jackal dog, sitting atop a flat trapezoidal altar made of gilded wood. The museum was built in 1901 to a design by French architect Marcel Dourgnon. In 2022, the museum is due to be superseded by the newer and larger Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza.
