The late afternoon sun shines on the spectacular landscape at Cotton Castle (travertines) at Pamukkale in Turkey. The travertines were formed over thousands of years after calcium carbonate rich spring water was deposited on the hillside. The pool in the foreground is man-made and was built to allow tourists to bathe in the mineral rich spring water without damaging the travertines.
