The source of the river Rhone is in the Rhone glacier in central Switzerland. 150 years ago the glacier enveloped all these rocks and filled the valley several miles below. Even in the 1980's the rocks in this photo were covered by deep ice. Recently a small lake has formed at the end of the glacier and this is the start of the river Rhone. In the autumn all fresh snow has melted off the surface
