The Smolenice Palffy Family Tomb with the Chapel of St. Vendelin is dated by an inscription on the chapel's façade, which proclaims: "For eternal rest to oneself and to one's own. Count Jozef Palffy from Erdod. 1896." Jozef Palffy (1853-1920) began building the family tomb in 1894 on the site of an older 18th-century chapel, which was also dedicated to St. Vendelin and originated from the times of ownership by the Smolenice Estate's Erdody family. Europe, Slovakia.
