The castle was built in 1215 30 by Margrave Hermann V of Baden and mentioned in 1312. The Steinhaus castle house, the former palace of the castle with a Romanesque fireplace and a toilet bay window as well as the round 36 m high keep made with humped blocks, the Schochenturm named after the tower keeper Schoch (built in 1220) have been preserved.
