The rarity of the four-leaf clover has given rise to various myths in various cultures, the most common of which is that finding one is a symbol of good fortune; likewise it is believed that placing one under the pillow is conducive to good dreams. Always according to other popular beliefs, each leaf would represent something: the first is for hope, the second for faith, the third for love and, obviously, the fourth symbolizes luck. For the Druids, the four-leaf clover was powerful against evil spirits. The oldest literary reference to the four-leaf clover seems to date back to 1620, with the first attestation of the latter as a lucky charm
