The Overland Trail Museum in Sterling, Colorado, was built by the WPA Works Progress Administration in 1936 and preserves the history of people who traveled the Overland Trail. It`s said that the Overland Trail was the heaviest traveled road in America between 1862 and 1868. Thousands of pioneers followed the route in search of gold and silver. Others recognized the importance of developing ranching empires on American prairie land. The Overland Trail Museum`s extensive exhibits include pioneer history, Native American artifacts and antique farm equipment. Historic buildings have been added over the years and include two barns, a general store, a prairie school, church, barbershop, 1915 stone block house, Conoco gas filling station, a caboose and a boxcar depot. Many of the exhibits in this popular tourist attraction include artifacts from the people who settled in Logan County.
