What makes this Sunflower so different from our other sunflowers is that the ray flower has no bractlets. This trait makes this plant distinct enough that it is more of a distant cousin of the Shrub Sunflower or Slender Sunflower. This plant is placed in the Tarweed tribe - our other sunflowers are in the Helianthus tribe.
