The Neptune is a vessel, although it is often mistakenly referred to as a galleon by all tourists. Instead, a little less from the Genoese who know a little more about her short history. Inspired in a generic and imaginative way by a Spanish vessel from the late 17th century. The Neptune was built 40 years ago, between April 1984 and March 1985 at the Port El Kantaoui shipyard, in Tunisia. About two thousand workers were employed and the overall cost was around eight million dollars. She was launched in 1986 and used as a set for the film ' ' Pirates' ' by Roman Pola?ski. It was also used for the promotion of the film in the same year, being moored among the glory in the port of Cannes on the occasion of the 39th Film Festival, where the film ' ' Pirates' ' was presented out of competition. In 2011 it was used as the setting for the television adaptation of the Jolly Roger of Captain Hook in the miniseries Neverland - The True Story of Peter Pan, by Nick Willing. She was then transported to the ancient port of Genoa, where she is moored at the Calvi Bridge and where she can be visited as a tourist attraction. The Neptune is imaginatively based on a generic late 17th century vessel. Although it is presented as Spanish, it is actually structurally closer to a French-type vessel. The topsides, i.e. the part above the waterline, is made of iroko wood, while the topsides, i.e. the part below the waterline, is made up of a steel barge equipped with a small engine, capable to develop a speed of 5 knots. The decorative elements, such as the cannons and statues, are made of fiberglass. She is registered in the naval register of Tunisia, the country where she was built. You have 20 kilometers of rope, for a total of 11 tons. The sails, initially present, were then removed for safety reasons as they rotted and were no longer replaced. Overall it gives an idea of what a large treponti of the late 17th century might have looked like. Today it is a tourist destination for the city of Genoa, and those who arrive in the city certainly don' t miss the opportunity to admire this wonder up close.
