The mausoleum was erected on the place where, in the summer of 1917, the battles of Marasesti took place, resulting in the victory of the Romanian troops. 480 officers and 21,000 Romanian soldiers perished in the clashes in Marasesti. Currently the mausoleum houses the remains of 5073 soldiers and officers, in 154 individual crypts and 9 common crypts of 18 colors.
