The small hidden flower of Purple Maguey Tradescantia spathacea, is a herbaceous species native to Mexico and Central America, and naturalized in Florida, Texas, Hawaii and several oceanic islands. The very small, white, clustered flowers arise in axillary cymes enclosed in purple pouch-like bracts. It is a very common ornamental plant in gardens in the city of San Salvador, El Salvador.
