The area consists of a series of buildings obtained from the general warehouses of the river port (designed between the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century) and built to house the industrial and commercial activities of the city of Rome, newly elected capital of Italy (1870). The structure of the buildings, designed by the Roman engineer Tullio Passarelli and completed in 1912, has the peculiarity of being the first in reinforced concrete built in Rome
