Valaám is an island in the northern part of the Lake, the largest of the Valaam archipelago. A town located on the island of Valaam, a part from the Sortavala urban settlement and Valaam monastery stavropigial′nyj, which is a monument of Russian architecture. Natural features are determined by the position of the archipelago in the waters of the Lake, the biggest in Europe – the Ladoga.
