The Independence Column, also known as The Angel, is located at the intersection of Paseo de la Riforma and Florencia, two of Mexico City's main thoroughfares. Completed in 1910 to commemorate the centenary of Mexico's independence from the then president of Mexico, Porfirio Diaz, it is one of the most important monuments in the city, and is currently considered the symbol of Mexico City, as well as being a place for celebrations and events national.
