The original homeland of the species is probably the Middle East, from where it began to spread around the world together with humans and agriculture since the Neolithic revolution. It was introduced to, among others, North and South America, Africa, Australasia and numerous oceanic islands. This makes the house sparrow one of the most geographically widespread, if not the most widely distributed bird in the world.
