This bridge in the Florida Keys, also known as the Bahia Honda Rail Bridge was constructed as a railroad truss bridge for the Flagler railroad. After the Labor Day hurricane of 1935 destroyed parts of the railroad, locations such as this bridge were bought by the state of Florida to be used in the construction of an Overseas Highway to Key West. This truss bridge was too narrow for a roadway so the road was actually built on top of the trusses. In 1972 a modern bridge was built and the old bridge has fallen into disuse and is slowly deteriorating into the sea.
