The re-creation of a historic ship, Hawaiian Chieftain sails into Yaquina Bay, in Newport, Oregon in August,2010 to give educational tours and rides. Built in Hawaii in 1988 and home ported in Grays Harbor at Aberdeen, Washington, she takes an annual cruise up and down the West Coast of the United States. She is a gaff-rigged ketch with a shallow draft of only 5 ft. 9in. allowing her to sail into the small ports along the way.
