The Great Mosque of Mecca, also known as the Masjid al-Haram, is the holiest site in Islam and the largest mosque in the world. Located in the city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, it surrounds the Kaaba, which Muslims believe to be the holiest site in Islam. The mosque can accommodate over two million worshippers during the annual Hajj pilgrimage and has a total area of 356,000 square meters. The current structure dates back to the 20th century and features a large central prayer hall with several courtyards and minarets. The mosque is also home to the Maqam Ibrahim, a sacred site where the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) is said to have stood while building the Kaaba.
