The fortress of Good Hope English: Castle of Good Hope; English: Kasteel de Goede Hoop; Afrikaans: Kasteel die Goeie Hoop is a Bastion fortification built by Europeans in the 17th century in South Africa. Sometimes referred to as Cape town Castle. Initially, the fortification was located on the coastline of the Canteen Bay . However, after extensive reclamation work, the Fort was located far from the coast, in one of the districts of Cape town. In 1936, the fortress was declared a historical monument, and after restoration in the 1980s, it is considered the best preserved example of a Dutch East India company Fort.
