It was first built in the 18th year of the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty (1420) and rebuilt in the third year of the Jiaqing reign (1798). It is one of the three rear palaces of the imperial court and served as the bedroom for emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as the place for daily administrative affairs.
