The origin of this plant is Central and South America. In 1945 this herb was discovered near Bogor, and since then it has grown rapidly. This weed likes fertile soil. In meadows with moist soil, lots of sun or little shade rice fields in the mountains and wastelands in the lowlands. Although it is called Bolivian coriander, it is not a close relative of cilantro.
