Lake Billy Chinook was formed by the 1964 construction of Round Butte hydroelectric dam on the Deschutes River downstream from its confluence with the Crooked and Metolius Rivers, within a 400 foot deep canyon cut through volcanic basalt layers. The area now encompasses the Cove Palisades State Park, west of Culver, Oregon. Mount Hood is seen on the distant horizon. Photo taken May 10th, 2009.
