The British Museum in London was founded in 1753. Its collection is based on more than 71,000 collections bequeathed by Sir Hans Sloan. To date, the collection has reached more than 8 million pieces, covering more than 2 million years of human history. The museum adheres to the principles of openness and knowledge sharing and has been open to the public free of charge since its establishment. This principle is based on an enlightenment that even though there are differences between human cultures, different cultures and people can understand each other by communicating with each other. The role of the museum is to provide a platform for communication and research across cultures and ethnic groups.
