The Blue Mosque, also known as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, is a historic mosque located in Istanbul, Turkey. It was constructed between 1609 and 1616 during the reign of Sultan Ahmed I, and was designed by architect Sedefkar Mehmed Agha. The mosque is known for its distinctive blue and white tile work, which covers the interior walls, and its six minarets, which make it one of the most recognizable landmarks of Istanbul. The mosque also features a large courtyard, a central dome, and two smaller domes, and can accommodate up to 10,000 worshippers at a time. Visitors to the mosque are required to dress modestly and remove their shoes before entering, and women must cover their heads.
