Common peony (Paeonia lactiflora Pall.) is a perennial herbaceous plant in the family Paeoniaceae and genus Paeonia. The roots are sturdy and the branches are black brown. The stem is 40-70 centimeters tall and hairless. The lower stem leaves are compound leaves with two leaves and three leaves, while the upper stem leaves are compound leaves with three leaves Leaves narrowly ovate, elliptical or lanceolate. Several flowers, growing at the top of the stem and in the axils of the leaves, sometimes only the top one blooms Bracts 4-5, lanceolate, of varying sizes Sepals 4, broadly ovate or nearly circular Petals 9-13, obovate, variously colored, sometimes with deep purple patches at the base The filament is 0.7-1.2 centimeters long and yellow. Follicles are 2.5-3 centimeters long and 1.2-1.5 centimeters in diameter, with a beak at the tip. The flowering period is from May to June The fruiting period is in August.
