Lightly textured photograph taken at Fort Knox, near Prospect, Maine, which started construction in 1844 as a deterrent to a possible British invasion of the Penobscot River Valley. It is one of the best preserved historic forts in New England. Powerfull cannon helped defend a fort made of stone and brick encasements.
