On a hill about a thousand meters above sea level, in the frame of the majestic Monte Velino, stand the ruins of Alba Fucens, the oldest city in Abruzzo, of which the stupendous vestiges of a thousand-year history remain. The ancient Latin colony, in the current fraction of Massa d'Albe (AQ), was founded by the Romans in 303 BC, in the territory of the Equi, north of Lake Fucino. The archaeological excavation has brought to light the remains of a entire town, made up of public spaces and private homes, and the suggestive amphitheater carved out of the hill.
