The giant stones at Avebury in Wiltshire, England were erected by a new wave of Beaker Culture people in the 3rd millennium BCE. It is the largest megalithic stone circle group on Earth. It was constructed in the same period as Stonehenge and Silbury Hill, probably for religious or ceremonial reasons.
