Around the world,as farmers moved to larger cities with the rise of the Industrial Revolution, they needed new locations to buy items like groceries. To fill this need, some families who owned a big building on a corner lot would turn the downstairs into a grocery store and they lived upstairs, what became known as the corner store or convent market. As big national brands became more popular, they would pay for the store owners signs if it clearly displayed the brands name and logo. With the end of WW2,families started to leave the cities for brand new suburbs, and driving took over, these corner stores started closing. This house on San Franciscos 20th and Guerreo Streets, built in 1868,had a corner store from the very beginning. As seen 2 August 2023.
