Clitoria ternatea, commonly known as butterfly pea, while in Indonesia it is known as telang flower, is a perennial herbaceous legume from the Fabaceae family. Etymologically from its specific name ternatea, this plant is thought to originate from the island of Ternate, Indonesia, but the exact geographic origin of C. ternatea is difficult to determine. This plant is easy to cultivate because it is tolerant of dry conditions, has the ability to fix nitrogen, self-pollination, and spreads by seed.
