After the failure of the coffee plantation in Sri Lanka, the first tea patch was planted as a test in the Kandy district, and this is where the name Loolkandura Estate comes from. Because of the plantation's astounding success, James Taylor, the young planter in command at the time, has been written into the annals of post-colonial Sri Lankan history.
