Narcissus is a genus of predominantly spring perennial plants of the Amaryllidaceae amaryllis family. Various common names including daffodil, daffadowndilly, narcissus and jonquil are used to describe all or some members of the genus. Narcissus has conspicuous flowers with six petal-like tepals surmounted by a cup- or trumpet-shaped corona. The flowers are generally white or yellow also orange or pink in garden varieties, with either uniform or contrasting coloured tepals and corona. This is a Tahiti narcissus. In the 1950s, Irish daffodil breeder J. Lionel Richardson developed a series of flowers with exotic names, including Tahiti. He was especially fond of daffodils with deep orange in their cups, providing a striking contrast to the brilliant gold petals. Tahiti tends to bloom in April with flowers that are roughly 4 inches across. Detail of one yellow petaled narcissus flower with orange and yellow braided corona in the middle.
