Prior to and during the very early part of WW2, the best way for San Franciscans to get any and all kinds of fresh produce, was at the produce market, and very early in the morning. This was an area of dozens of blocks long near the water front. Then came the redevelopment of the 1960`s, and the produce market got moved to its current location in the south eastern corner of the city. What was the produce market today is the Embarcadero Center and Gateway Center condos with the Sydney Walton Square Public Park, with sculptures and a new children's playground. All that remains of the old market is the one areaway, from the Columbo Market Gate, now the Golden Gateway Arch.
