The Pamlico Sound is the largest sound on the East Coast. The sound is fed by three different inlets, Oregon Inlet, Hatteras Inlet and Ocracoke Inlet, which not only connects it to the Atlantic Ocean, but maintains the salinity levels as well as the water levels.
