The Summer Palace served as a summer resort for Empress Dowager Cixi of the Qing Dynasty. Its landscape includes Longevity Hill and Kunming Lake, as well as the Long Corridor and various Chinese gardens and ancient architecture. In 1998, UNESCO included the Summer Palace on its World Heritage List, as a masterpiece of Chinese traditional garden design.
