The Peace Memorial, also known as the Naval Memorial or Civil War Sailors Memorial, is located on the grounds of the United States Capitol on Peace Circle at First Street, NW, and Pennsylvania Avenue, in the city of Washington D.C. (United States). The 13.4m high marble monument was erected between 1877 and 1878 to commemorate naval deaths at sea during the Civil War. Today it is part of a three-part sculptural group that includes the James A. Garfield Monument and the Ulysses S. Grant Monument.
