On March 15th 44 BCE, Julius Caesar was assassinated while attending a meeting of the Senate at the Temple of Pompey. In 1936 a bronze statue of Julius Caesar was erected in The Imperial Roman Forums. The statue was unveiled by Benito Mussolini, Italy's fascist dictator from 1922 until 1943. It is a copy of an ancient marble statue of Caesar, which now stands in Palazzo Senatorio, the seat of Rome's city council.
