Wat Thepthidaram was built by King Rama III in 1836 for his daughter, Princess Kroma Muen Apsomsudathep. It was originally called Wat Ban Phrayakrai Suanluang. Located on Mahachai Road in Bangkok, the temple was built with a mixture of Chinese architectural styles. Sunthon Phu, one of Thailands greatest poets, had resided in this temple during his monkhood from 1840 - 1842. This temple has excellent educational offerings. There are various displays and installations about the history and teachings of Buddhism divided by topics on different floors of a rather tall temple. The temple itself houses a relic of the Buddha. In general it does not offer the quality of bright colors and photo opportunities that many tourists are seeking and other nearby temples are a better choice if this is your goal. This is a great place for those interested in learning more about Buddhism.
