Probably a pagan well originally as spring wells were used by the old Druids when holding their liturgies. Tradition has it that St Patrick baptised people here in 441AD. It still is and has always been a place of pilgrimage. A new elegant statue has recently been erected at the well. The statue in bronze is an image of St Patrick about to baptise pilgrims at the well. St Patrick`s well which flows into nearby Lough Carra and has never yet been known to run dry. Alongside the well is a rock with the impression of the Saints knee.
