The silver moony is perfectly adapted to life in the mangrove, as it is able to live in fresh or salt water and, in fact, is very commonly kept in fresh water aquariums. It is a territorial fish that normally inhabits the cloudy waters of mangroves and sometimes penetrates streams. Occasionally, it appears in small groups that swim next to coastal reefs rich in mud and slime.
