The squacco heron (ardeola ralloides) is a small heron that quietly hunts by the water's edge. In Kenya, the bird is present all year round and in this photo has non-breeding plumage. This photo was taken in the wild Amboseli National Park, Kenya, a bird-lover's paradise (over 400 bird species) especially during the months of November and December when migratory birds are present too.
