Israel`s legendary singing artist, Shoshana Damari, performs at the Karmiel Dance Festival in Israel`s Galilee region, on July, 1989. Born in Dhamar, Yemen, she studied acting as well. Her distinctive Yemeni accent and powerful husky voice were unique on stage and for decades she was known as Israel`s `First Lady of Song,` the `Queen of Hebrew Music,` and was an unofficial cultural ambassador for the Jewish state. She died at 82, from pneumonia, on February 14, 2006.
