Sheshnag Lake is a prominent tourist destination and pilgrimage site, situated near Pahalgam in Kashmir. The lake is named after Sheshnag – the divine serpent as per Hindu mythology. It is said that the serpent dug this lake and made it his abode, where he still resides.
The lake is regarded sacred since ancient times as it lies on the pilgrimage route to the holy Amarnath Caves. Melted snow and mountainous streams feed Sheshnag Lake, which stays frozen and inaccessible during winters. The scenic surroundings of this lake consist of sprawling green pastures and snow-laden mountains.
