Prior to the American Civil War, William T. Sherman, best remember as a Union General, was a bank manager for the bank of Lucas, Turner. The construction of the bank, finished in 1853, was even supervised by Sherman.nAlthough Sherman was a very good banker, he did not get along with many of the cities leaders, although his bank was one of very few to survive the depression of 1854, because the towns leaders were boycotting him, by 1855 the bank was closed. nFor a while it was used as a sausage factory, then a soy sauce factory. nNow this building, like many in the area, is retail and offices. As seen 13 July 2022.
