From December 3, 2021 – June 19, 2022 Frank Lloyd Wright`s Taliesin West in Scottsdale, Arizona hosts an exhibition of glass artist Dale Chihuly. The spots for his sculptures and installations were carefully selected to offer new perceptions of Frank Lloyd Wright`s famous winter retreat. Visible here: Wright`s studio on the left and the dormitory in the background. Yucca plants on the right.
This installation was created in 2021. From the flyer: Originating during experimental blows in Finland, Reeds are among the most dramatic forms.Creating the long, tubular shapes requires one glass blower, who blows into the pipe, the tube being elevatedby a mechanical lift, while another glass blower pulls the molten glass towards the ground. Chihuly was inspired to create Niijima Floats during a trip to the glass schoolon the island of Niijima, Japan.
Please, check out my portfolio for more Photos of Chihuly sculptures and installations.
