Pictured is a scimitar oryx from the highway near Transitions Wildlife Photography Ranch near the City of Uvalde, Texas. The binomial name is Oryx dammah. It is also known as the scimitar-horned oryx and the Sahara oryx. It is the animal symbol of the Sahara Conservation Fund. This straight-horned antelope is bred in captivity in special reserves in Tunisia, Morocco, and Senegal, and on private exotic animal ranches in the Texas Hill Country. A small herd has been successfully reintroduced in Chad.
